Discourse analysis is born as an area of trans disciplinary study in a period from the mid-sixties and seventies, and applied to disciplines such as anthropology, ethnography, sociology, social and cognitive psychology, poetry, rhetoric, stylistics, semiotics and other disciplines within the humanities and social sciences who are interested in the systematic study of the structures, functions and processing text and speech. Discourse analysis is developed from a critical perspective, taking into account mainly the theories of Bakhtin and Van Dijk, as well as approaches Veron. Sobretesis agrees with the faculty conception of discourse as a power scheme, also coinciding with the contributions of Bourdieu in this area.

Currently any type of speech is analysed, from adolescents or disadvantaged neighbourhoods jargons, to the technicalities of academics and specialists everything is liable to be analysed, and any analysis has social and cultural interest, in addition to the strictly linguistic. Anyway, the stars of the “speeches” are the political discourse and the discourse of the media, which intertwine and form what, is usually called public opinion. Until more stripped neutral and critical discourse, more washing and for working display will always be fraught with stereotypes and stigmatization.
